» Victor Orozco Ramirez

I’m independent filmmaker born in Mexico and currently based in Germany. I do essay short films blending documentary footage with animation. My work often focuses on exploring diverse social topics trough a subjective perspective and fragmented narratives.

I’ve got a degree in Industrial Design from the University of Guadalajara, Mexico, and a master’s degree in the area of documentary filmmaking from the HfBK Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg, Germany.

I started in Guadalajara back in the 90s, experimenting with installations and photography. Around this time, I also co-founded Gremiodiseño (Design and Art laboratory), a place where we worked together to explore the intersection of art and design.

From 2005-2012 I was co-director of the short film festival “ambulart” in Ecuador, Mexico and Germany. A cultural project that connected Germany and Latin America through film.

Since 2003, my films have been screened at over 250 film festivals. I’ve been lucky enough to win awards at some of them like the Mar del Plata International Film Festival, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Morelia Film Fest, Guadalajara International Film Festival and Animafest Zagreb.

My films had also been nominated for the Ariel Award and the German Short Film Award. They had also won the Preis der Nationalgalerie for filmmaking, the First Steps Award and the German Short Film Award.
